The Walled Obelisk (Obelisk of Constantine)

At the southern end of the Hippodrome

This 32-metre obelisk of rough-cut stone stands at the southern end of the Hippodrome. In the 10th century Emperor Constantine VII sheathed it in gilded bronze plates, which the Crusaders stripped in 1204.
